Bio
Recruited from Mansfield in the Waranga North East league, Bob Lockhart was a diminutive rover whose raw talent attracted the attention of Tigers royalty Jack Dyer and Des Rowe. The pair famously secured his signature at a country pub, bringing the skilled ball-winner to Punt Road where he impressed with his pace and clean hands around the stoppages. Despite showing promise, Lockhart found it difficult to adjust to the rigours of city life and the demands of VFL training, opting to return to the bush after just two seasons. Although he only featured in 13 senior games, he left his mark by playing a starring role in Richmond’s 1962 Night Series premiership victory over Hawthorn before continuing a decorated country football career with Thornton and Bonnie Doon.
