Bio
A tough and creative wingman from the Goulburn Valley, Bob McCaskill arrived at Punt Road as a mature-age recruit after serving in the First World War and starring in local premierships for Shepparton. He broke into the Tigers' midfield in 1923, utilizing his pace and elite disposal to become a regular fixture in the side that finished runner-up in the unique 1924 round-robin finals series. His playing stint at VFL level was relatively brief, as he departed to accept a professional role as secretary of the Bendigo YMCA, a move that launched a legendary coaching career. After steering Sandhurst to a staggering nine flags in the country, McCaskill returned to the VFL to lead North Melbourne to their first-ever finals appearance and later coached Hawthorn, where he famously introduced the club's vertical brown and gold stripes before passing away while still in office.
