Teams

Recruited from Chiltern in north-east Victoria, Bob McGann arrived at the Western Oval for the 1928 season. Standing 179cm, he was trialled in a defensive capacity and managed five senior appearances for Footscray as the club looked to stabilize its lineup in its fourth year of VFL competition. McGann was unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior side and departed the league at the end of the year to join Preston in the VFA. He went on to play 24 games for the Bullants across the 1929 and 1930 seasons, failing to kick a goal at either level, a statistic that underscores his profile as a dedicated backman.
