Bio
Bob Nash was a formidable full-back and leader whose VFL career was as impactful as it was surprisingly short. The son of a Carlton VFA player, he was inadvertently let slip by the Blues and recruited from Coburg, quickly transforming from a forward into a defensive anchor known for his "lion-like" aggression, strong overhead marking, and long kicking. Nash rose to captain Collingwood in 1908 and led the side for two seasons before stunning the competition by departing at just 25 years of age to captain-coach Footscray in the VFA. His legacy extends beyond his playing days as the patriarch of a sporting dynasty—most notably as the father of South Melbourne champion Laurie Nash—and he remained a devoted Magpie until the end, famously passing away while watching Collingwood win the 1958 Grand Final.
