Bio
Recruited to South Melbourne as a teenager, Bob Porter debuted in the latter stages of the 1962 season, donning the number 22 guernsey for the Bloods. Standing 178cm, he operated primarily as a forward flanker or pocket, offering a target near the sticks during a lean era for the club. Porter enjoyed his most consistent run in 1963, playing 13 games and kicking nine goals, acting as a supporting foil in a forward line often overshadowed by the brilliance of captain-coach Bob Skilton. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior side, he drifted out of the rotation the following year, concluding his VFL career with 21 games and 12 goals before departing the Lake Oval at the end of 1964.
