Bio
Recruited from Box Hill, Bob Sellers was a foundational figure for Hawthorn, lining up in the club's inaugural VFL match in Round 1, 1925. A versatile follower and forward, he was a standout performer during the "Mayblooms'" difficult early years, providing physicality and leadership in a team that often struggled to compete. His consistency was rewarded in 1928 when he was named club captain and won the Best All-Rounder award (the precursor to the Best and Fairest). In a unique twist to his career, Sellers left to captain-coach local side Auburn in 1934 but returned for the final round of the VFL season believing he was playing his 100th match, though official records later confirmed he finished agonizingly short on 98 games. He remained a dedicated clubman long after retiring, serving as a VFL goal umpire and Hawthorn's timekeeper for nearly two decades.
