Stats
Bio
Recruited from Yarraville Juniors, Bob Shearer was a towering prospect who briefly graced the VFL during the war-torn 1915 season. Standing 187cm—a height generally reserved for ruckmen and key position players in that era—he offered Essendon significant size and managed to boot a goal during his short three-game tenure. However, his football ambitions were ultimately secondary to the Great War; Shearer's career was curtailed when he enlisted in the AIF, serving as a private with the 39th Battalion after embarking for overseas duty in 1917. While he never returned to top-flight football after the conflict, he remains one of the many players whose sporting prime was sacrificed for military service.
