Bio
Bob Taylor was a classic local product who battled his way up through the ranks to represent the Bombers. Recruited from the North Essendon Methodists, where he had already claimed the F. H. Woods Medal as the district's best junior player, Taylor served a long apprenticeship in the reserves, notably featuring in the club’s 1952 seconds premiership side. He eventually broke into the senior lineup in 1954 as a half-back flanker, where he became known for his strong overhead marking and a prodigious drop kick. While he often found himself on the fringe of selection, fighting to cement a permanent spot in the 22, he remained a gritty and determined defender across his three seasons at the top level. Taylor’s career reflected that of a dedicated clubman who maximized his opportunity after years of persistence in the lower grades.
