Bio
Hailing from the mining town of Broken Hill, Bob Troughton arrived at Geelong via the SANFL, where he had already established himself as a prolific goalkicker with West Torrens. Recruited as a mature-age talent in 1930, he crossed the border to join the VFL and immediately added potency to the Cats' forward setup. A versatile small man capable of patrolling the wing or roving the packs, Troughton was most dangerous when drifting forward, where his sharp goal sense made him a constant threat. He proved his quality on the biggest stage, booting three goals in the 1930 Grand Final loss before playing a vital role in the club’s 1931 premiership triumph, cementing his status as a key contributor to Geelong's success during the Depression era.
