Bio
Originally from Western Australia but recruited via Traralgon, Bob Turner joined Melbourne during the peak of the Norm Smith dynasty. Primarily a defender, he faced the formidable challenge of cracking a backline that anchored three premierships during his tenure, limiting him to just 22 games in five years as he oscillated between the reserves and the seniors. The Demons briefly experimented with Turner as a forward—most notably when he booted five goals during the 1960 season—but he ultimately left the VFL to play for Oakleigh and later captain-coached Warragul. A schoolteacher by profession and the best man at Ron Barassi’s wedding, Turner was a revered figure within the club's past player network until his passing in 2025.
