Bio
Recruited from Foster in South Gippsland, Bob Wiltshire was a larger-than-life character whose football journey began with a drastic teenage growth spurt that saw him evolve from a wingman into a genuine giant of the era. Standing 192cm and weighing 104kg, "Big Bob" arrived at Geelong in 1954 as the tallest player to ever don the Hoops at that time, joining the club in the wake of their legendary early-50s premierships. While he used his imposing frame to intimidate opposition followers, he struggled to cement a permanent spot at Kardinia Park, eventually crossing to North Melbourne during the 1957 season on the lure of a lucrative ten-pounds-per-game offer. Wiltshire played his best football at Arden Street, where he utilised his sheer size and strength in the ruck contests for three seasons, ultimately remembered as a colorful, "larrikin" figure of the 1950s game.
