Bio
The son of Fitzroy VFA pioneer Ned Carew, Bobby Carew was a fast and skilful left-footed wingman who wasted little time establishing himself at Punt Road. Arriving from Middle Park CYMS, he earned Victorian state selection in his debut 1919 season—an exceptional achievement for a rookie—though a leg injury cruelly ruled him out of that year's Grand Final side. Carew recovered to play a pivotal role in the club's golden era, utilizing his pace and delivery to help secure back-to-back premierships in 1920 and 1921. His rapid rise was met with an equally sudden decline, as a loss of form saw him depart the league after just four seasons, eventually moving on to become the inaugural coach of Old Paradians.
