Recruited from Sturt with pick 18 in the 2011 National Draft, Brad McKenzie arrived at North Melbourne with high expectations surrounding his elite ball use. A smooth-moving left-footer utilised primarily as a rebounding defender or outside midfielder, he was renowned for his precise field kicking and ability to set up play from the back half. However, McKenzie struggled to translate his junior promise into consistent output at the elite level, often finding himself on the fringe of selection as he battled to impact contests physically. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the Kangaroos' best 22, he managed just 37 games over five seasons before being delisted at the end of 2016.
