Bio
Selected with pick seven in the 2009 National Draft, Brad Sheppard took time to cement his place in the West Coast lineup, initially fluctuating between utility roles before locking down a position in the back six. He evolved into one of the league's most reliable small-to-medium defenders, celebrated for his bravery in the air and his discipline against dangerous opposition forwards. While not always the headline act in a star-studded defence, Sheppard became a critical structural piece for the Eagles, using his elite reading of the play to intercept and rebound with composure.
Sheppard's career narrative is defined by both resilience and misfortune. He was a key pillar of the dominant 2018 side but suffered a significant hamstring injury in the Qualifying Final, cruelly forcing him to watch the club's premiership victory from the sidelines. He responded to that heartbreak with career-best form, eventually earning a maiden All-Australian blazer in 2020. After 216 games, his time at the top level was brought to a premature close prior to the 2022 season, when he was forced into medical retirement due to ongoing concussion battles.
