Bio
Recruited from Swan Districts in the WAFL, Brad Shine arrived at Carlton in 1985 as a mature-age prospect fresh off a hat-trick of premierships in the west. A tenacious and skilled rover, Shine had established himself as one of the premier midfielders in Western Australia, but he faced a difficult task breaking into a star-studded Blues engine room that included the likes of Wayne Johnston and Rod Ashman. Consequently, he struggled to cement a permanent position in the senior side, playing largely as a depth player during a period where Carlton was a dominant force, ultimately missing out on the 1987 premiership team. After four seasons and 23 games at VFL level, he returned to Swan Districts to captain the club, cementing his status as a WAFL great and eventually earning selection in the Swans' Team of the Century.
