Bio
Recruited from Sturt with pick 66 in the 2017 National Draft, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher served a long apprenticeship in the VFL before cementing his spot as a key pillar in Essendon's defence. A tall backman who relies on spoiling reach and desperate defensive efforts rather than elite disposal, he stepped up significantly during the Bombers' 2023 campaign to shoulder the heavy lifting against opposition key forwards. Seeking a return to South Australia, he requested a trade to Port Adelaide at the end of that season, eventually moving to Alberton in a swap that sent Xavier Duursma the other way. Brought in specifically to address the Power's structural defensive issues, Zerk-Thatcher has since established himself as a regular member of the starting 18, providing essential height and lockdown support deep in defence.
