Bio
Recruited from Queensland with a rugby league background, Braydon Preuss entered the AFL via North Melbourne in the 2015 Rookie Draft as an imposing 206cm prospect. An aggressive and physically dominant ruckman known for his heavy tackling and aerial presence, his career narrative was largely defined by an inability to bypass established stars at selection. After serving as the perennial understudy to Todd Goldstein at the Kangaroos, Preuss requested a trade to Melbourne in 2019, only to find himself stuck behind Max Gawn. Seeking a clear run at a number one ruck role, he moved to GWS for the 2021 season, but his tenure in Sydney was derailed by a series of significant injuriesโincluding pectoral and back issuesโand suspension. Consequently, he struggled to get on the park while Kieren Briggs claimed the primary ruck mantle, leading to Preuss being delisted at the end of 2024 after just 28 games across 10 seasons.
