Bio
Recruited from Zillmere with pick 29 in the 2007 National Draft, Brendan Whitecross established himself as a vital utility player during Hawthorn's dominant era. Capable of playing as a rebounding defender, a link-up winger, or a defensive forward, he was highly rated internally for his tactical discipline and reliable ball use. Despite being a best-22 lock when fit, his career became defined by wretched timing and injury heartbreak, arguably making him the most unfortunate player of the Hawks' golden generation.
Whitecross missed out on all four of Hawthorn's premierships during his tenure, primarily due to two anterior cruciate ligament ruptures suffered in finals campaigns. The first occurred in the 2012 Qualifying Final, and the second took place during the 2013 Preliminary Final, cruelly robbing him of a premiership medallion the following week. Although he displayed immense resilience to return to senior football and play a role in the club's later campaigns, he ultimately finished his career without a flag, being delisted at the conclusion of the 2018 season after 111 games.
