Bio
Taken with the first pick in the 2002 National Draft from the Gippsland Power, Brendon Goddard arrived at St Kilda with high expectations and developed into one of the league's most versatile utilities. Key to the Saints' dominance under Ross Lyon, he was capable of controlling the game from half-back, dominating the midfield, or pushing forward to kick crucial goals. His tenure at Moorabbin was defined by his performance in the 2010 drawn Grand Final against Collingwood, where his spectacular pack mark and goal late in the fourth quarter nearly secured the premiership, cementing his reputation as a big-game player.
In a landmark move at the end of 2012, Goddard became the first high-profile player to switch clubs via restricted free agency, signing a lucrative deal with Essendon. While he moved in search of team success, his time at Tullamarine was largely defined by his role as a stabilising leader during the club's supplements saga. He served as captain during the difficult 2016 season when experienced teammates were serving suspensions, often wearing his heart on his sleeve and drawing attention for his demonstrative on-field feedback.
