Bio
Recruited from South Adelaide, Brendon Lade was an inaugural member of Port Adelaide's AFL squad who established himself as a tactically astute ruckman capable of punishing opposition teams on the scoreboard. While he did not possess the vertical leap of his more athletic contemporaries, Lade relied on superior body positioning, strength, and deft tap work to advantage his midfielders. His career faced a significant crisis in the early 2000s when he suffered broken legs in consecutive seasons, forcing him to miss the entire 2001 campaign and casting serious doubt over his future at the elite level.
Lade produced a remarkable resurgence to become a critical component of the Power's midfield setup during their peak years. He played a vital role in the historic 2004 premiership victory and evolved into one of the competition's premier ruck-forwards, earning All-Australian selection in 2006 and 2007. His individual influence was formally recognised when he won the John Cahill Medal as the club's best and fairest in 2006. Renowned for his resilience following his early injury setbacks, Lade retired in 2009 as a one-club player and one of Port Adelaide's most decorated figures.
