A classy left-footer from Swan Districts, Brendon Retzlaff endured a journeyman AFL career that saw him represent three clubs in quick succession during the 1990s. Originally drafted by Collingwood but unable to break into their senior side, he was traded to the Brisbane Bears where he played the majority of his top-level football as a smooth-moving wingman and half-forward. Despite boasting excellent awareness and state-league pedigree—highlighted by a Simpson Medal win for Western Australia in 1991—he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the AFL, managing brief stints at West Coast via the pre-season draft and later joining Fremantle as an inaugural squad member in 1995. While he couldn't replicate his dominant WAFL form on the national stage, Retzlaff remained a highly respected figure at Swan Districts, eventually captaining the club after his AFL days concluded.
