Recruited by Collingwood via the 2006 Rookie Draft, Brent Macaffer developed into a resilient utility whose career was defined by adaptability and perseverance against injury. Initially making his mark as a crafty medium forward, he played a vital role in the Magpies' 2010 premiership campaign, serving as a key link in the attacking chain during the club's flag success. However, his momentum was often stalled by serious setbacks, including a ruptured ACL that wiped out his entire 2012 season, which prompted a significant reinvention upon his return. Under coach Nathan Buckley, Macaffer transformed into one of the league's most disciplined run-with players, effectively nullifying elite opposition midfielders and earning the club's Best Clubman award in 2013. Despite suffering a second knee reconstruction in 2014 that limited his output in his final seasons, he retired in 2016 as a highly respected one-club player who successfully transitioned from a premiership forward to a selfless defensive specialist.
