Bio
Selected by Essendon with pick 13 in the 2003 National Draft, Brent Stanton wasted little time establishing himself at senior level, debuting in Round 1 the following year. Renowned for his elite endurance and running capacity, he developed into a prolific ball-winning midfielder who could run opponents into the ground. While his outside game style and disposal usage occasionally polarised supporters, Stanton was an undeniable staple of the Bombers' engine room for over a decade, consistently polling well in best and fairest counts and finishing runner-up twice.
Stanton's longevity and durability saw him become one of the few players to play 250 games for the club. However, his tenure coincided with a difficult period for Essendon, most notably the supplements saga which saw him sit out the entire 2016 season due to suspension. He returned in 2017 to reach his major games milestone and offer veteran leadership to a developing list before retiring at the end of the season. A resilient one-club player, Stanton transitioned into assistant coaching roles immediately after hanging up the boots.
