Bio
Recruited from Norwood after cutting his teeth in Broken Hill, Brett Cook had a turbulent start to his career, delaying his arrival at Fitzroy to challenge the validity of the draft in court. The 194cm ruckman eventually debuted for the Lions in 1994, but found himself looking for a new home when the club merged with Brisbane at the end of 1996. Overlooked by the new entity, Cook was thrown a lifeline by St Kilda in the pre-season draft, where he became an unlikely finals hero. With star big men Peter Everitt and Lazar Vidovic injured, Cook was thrust into the number one ruck role for the 1997 finals campaign, holding his own in the Preliminary Final and lining up in the Grand Final against Adelaide. He played sparingly over the next two seasons before being delisted, remembered largely for stepping up when the Saints needed tall timber most.
