Bio
Recruited from Subiaco with pick 92 in the 1989 National Draft, Brett Heady became one of the most astute selections in West Coast's history. A highly skilled half-forward who often rotated through the midfield, Heady was renowned for his exceptional overhead marking ability relative to his size and his innate goal sense. He quickly established himself as a vital cog in Mick Malthouse's dominant sides of the early 1990s, presenting a difficult matchup for opposition defenders who struggled to contain both his aerial prowess and his ground-level agility.
Heady played a central role in the club's golden era, featuring in the 1991 Grand Final loss before securing premiership medallions in 1992 and 1994. His capacity to turn matches with bursts of brilliance made him a crowd favourite, but his career momentum was frequently halted by chronic soft-tissue injuries during his prime. These recurring hamstring issues limited his output in the late 1990s, eventually forcing his retirement at the end of the 1999 season. He departed as a dual premiership player and was later named in the forward pocket of the Eagles' Team 20, recognising his status as one of the club's most dangerous medium forwards.
