Bio
Recruited from the club’s local zone, Brett Marchant was a teenage prodigy who arrived at Melbourne via the Demons' scholarship squad. A standout junior talent from Mentone, he had already made his senior debut in the Federal League at just 15 and played in a premiership side at 16 before joining the VFL ranks full-time. Marchant broke into the senior side late in the 1977 season, making his debut as a 17-year-old and playing four consecutive games as a tall utility. Despite his promise, he was unable to consolidate his spot the following year and was delisted prior to the 1979 season without adding to his game tally. While his VFL career was brief, Marchant returned to Mentone to forge a legendary local career, winning a club-record seven consecutive Best and Fairest awards, two league medals, and serving as captain, coach, and president.
