Bio
Recruited from Camperdown in the Hampden Football League, Brian Carroll was a defender who managed ten senior appearances for Fitzroy during the 1963 season. He lined up primarily in the back pocket and is best remembered for his role in the famous "Miracle Match" upset against Geelong at Brunswick Street Oval. In that fixture, a winless and inexperienced Lions outfit stunned the eventual premiers, with Carroll helping to anchor a defence that restricted the powerful Cats to just three goals. Although his VFL career was limited to a single season, his contribution to the game continued through his son, Damian Carroll, who later became a respected assistant coach and academy head at Hawthorn and Collingwood.
