Bio
Born in Peebles, Scotland, Brian Cook immigrated to Australia as a child and developed his game at Box Hill in the VFA. After two seasons in the Hawthorn reserves failed to yield a senior debut, he transferred to Melbourne in 1977 to fight for a spot in the lineup. Cook played four matches as a tall utility for the Demons, including a debut against Collingwood at the MCG, but struggled to cement a permanent place in the side. He left the VFL at the end of the season to pursue academic studies in Western Australia, where he carved out a respectable state-league career with Subiaco and East Perth. However, his brief stint as a Demon serves as the on-field footnote to a legendary administrative career, as Cook later became the visionary CEO responsible for guiding both the West Coast Eagles and Geelong to multiple premierships.
