Bio
Recruited from the Murray River town of Koondrook, Brian Gilmore was an athletic follower who faced the difficult task of breaking into a formidable Essendon lineup during the early 1950s. Although he was restricted to sporadic senior appearances for the Bombers, he established himself as a key contributor to the club's depth, playing in reserves premierships in both 1950 and 1952. A gifted professional sprinter who won a quarter-mile handicap at the Stawell Gift, Gilmore eventually found greater continuity at St Kilda after a season with Kyneton. He played ten consecutive matches for the Saints in 1955, using his pace and endurance to good effect, before a four-week suspension for striking Carlton's Noel O'Brien effectively drew the curtain on his VFL career.
