Hailing from the remote mining town of Broken Hill, Brian Goodhart was a gifted all-round athlete who arrived at Fitzroy with a reputation as one of the Barrier region's premier footballers and swimmers. Recruited from North Broken Hill in 1934, the 185cm utility possessed exceptional height for the era, which he combined with the natural fitness of a competitive swimmer to compete strongly in the air. He broke into the Maroons' lineup as a 21-year-old, managing 15 games across two seasons as a tall option capable of rotating through key positions. Despite showing promise with his physical attributes, Goodhart's VFL career was brief, and he departed the league following the 1935 season at just 22 years of age.
