Bio
Recruited from Northcote High, Brian Hepper entered the VFL system via Fitzroy's fourths after his school teacher convinced his reluctant mother to allow him to play competitive football. Standing 177cm, he was a lightly built half-forward flanker who managed sporadic senior appearances during a lean era for the Lions in the mid-1960s. The cousin of former Fitzroy player Wally Clark, Hepper found it difficult to balance elite football with his medical studies, eventually leaving the VFL to focus on his career as a general practitioner. Known affectionately as "Doc," he continued his football journey with success outside the top tier, playing in a premiership with Redan in the Ballarat Football League before a later stint with Coburg in the VFA.
