Recruited from the local Camden Football Club, Brian Mee was a lightweight utility whose brief tenure at St Kilda coincided with a rare patch of competitiveness for the struggling club. Standing just 175cm, Mee broke into the senior side late in the 1949 season, but it was his contribution during 1950 that remains a curious footnote in Saints history. In a year where St Kilda managed only five victories to finish eleventh on the ladder, Mee featured in every single one of those wins, as well as the club’s solitary draw against Carlton. Conversely, the Saints failed to register a victory in the ten matches he missed that season. Despite serving as a statistical good-luck charm for the red, white, and black, Mee was unable to permanently cement his spot in the defensive rotation and drifted out of VFL football after just ten games.
