Bio
Recruited from Malvern Grammar, Brian "Moo" Muir came through the St Kilda thirds where he narrowly missed winning the Morrish Medal before breaking into the senior side during Alan Killigrew’s aggressive 1956 list rebuild. A strong-marking ruckman and utility, Muir was known for his aerial capacity which often compensated for a famously awkward kicking style. He made an immediate impression by polling two Brownlow votes in his debut game against Essendon, though the demands of his career as a wool classer eventually saw him leave the VFL to captain-coach East Brighton, where he famously mentored a young Carl Ditterich. While his senior playing career was brief, his contribution to the Saints was enduring, as he later served the club for decades as a selector, committee member, Under-19s coach, and President of the Past Players Association.
