A rarity for his era, Brian Mynott was born in Southampton, England, before being recruited to the Saints from Noble Park-Harrisfield. Standing 193cm, he developed into a durable and honest ruck-forward who became a lynchpin of the St Kilda lineup for over a decade. His career is forever defined by the 1966 finals series; when star ruckman Carl Ditterich was suspended, Mynott was called upon to shoulder the heavy lifting alongside veteran Alan Morrow. He rose to the occasion in the Grand Final against Collingwood, competing fiercely in the ruck and taking a crucial, nerve-settling mark in the dying stages that prompted Ted Whitten’s famous commentary instruction to "slow it down."

While the '66 flag remains the headline, Mynott’s utility value ensured he remained a constant presence at Moorabbin long after the premiership celebrations ended. He was a strong overhead mark and a reliable kick who could drift forward to hit the scoreboard, a trait evidenced by his 75 career goals. His resilience allowed him to play 210 games for the club, serving as a bridge between the premiership era and the mid-70s. His contribution to the club's greatest era was formally recognised with his induction into the St Kilda Hall of Fame.
