Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League, Brian Walsh was a clever rover and forward pocket who carved out a reputation as a dangerous goal-sneak. Although he lacked blistering pace, Walsh compensated with sharp football intellect and elite dual-sided foot skills that made him a constant threat around the big sticks. His time at Princes Park peaked during the 1973 season, where he topped the Blues' goalkicking with 60 majors, won the Best Clubman award, and played in the Grand Final loss to Richmond.
Walsh crossed to Essendon on the eve of the 1975 season and immediately proved his worth at Windy Hill, finishing third in the club's best and fairest in two of his four years there. He remained a consistent avenue to goal, booting exactly 100 majors for the Bombers to finish with a career tally of over 200. After his VFL career concluded, he cemented his legacy in the VFA as the captain-coach of Werribee, winning the club's best and fairest in 1981, before later serving as an assistant coach at Fitzroy under former teammate Robert Walls.
