Bio
Recruited from local side Ascot Vale, Bruce Anderson established himself as a defensive anchor for Essendon throughout the 1930s. He was a versatile operator across the half-back line, equally comfortable holding down the key centre half-back post or providing drive from the flanks. His standing in the competition was significant, evidenced by his selection to represent Victoria for three consecutive years from 1933 to 1935 and his appointment as the Bombers' vice-captain in 1934. A consistent performer who polled well in Brownlow counts during his later years, Anderson fell just short of a century of games for Essendon before departing to captain-coach Yarraville in the VFA.
