Bio
Recruited from the North Balwyn Methodists, Bruce Malcolm Reid was a diminutive midfielder who managed a brief three-game stint with Hawthorn at Glenferrie Oval in the mid-1960s. Standing just 171cm, he struggled to break into the senior side permanently and eventually transferred to the VFA, where he enjoyed significant success as part of Preston’s back-to-back premiership teams in 1968 and 1969. While his playing career at the elite level was fleeting, Reid left a massive legacy off the field; he completed his medical studies during his playing days and returned to the VFL as a club doctor, serving Richmond before becoming the longest-serving and most beloved medical officer in Essendon’s history.
