Bio
Lancelot "Bruce" Mills was a local Geelong product who broke into the Pivotonians' lineup during a golden era for the club. Making his debut in 1926—the season immediately following Geelong's breakthrough maiden premiership—Mills faced the difficult task of holding a spot in a star-studded side, ultimately managing nine senior games and three goals as a rover or forward pocket. Outside of his brief VFL stint, he was a respected accountant and a resident of Newtown, the suburb where he would leave his most enduring football legacy. Mills remained a prominent figure in the local leagues and holds the distinction of being the inaugural coach of the newly merged Newtown and Chilwell Football Club in 1933. His contribution to the Geelong football community was cut tragically short when he passed away in 1936 at the age of just 34.
