Recruited from Wentworth after winning back-to-back McLeod Medals in the Sunraysia league, Bruce Tschirpig was a creative utility who struggled to cement a permanent spot in Richmond's powerhouse 1970s lineup. He showed immediate potential in his 1971 debut season, notably booting four goals in a win over Carlton to celebrate Roger Dean's 200th game, but injuries and the difficulty of breaking into a premiership-calibre list limited him to just eight appearances. Seeking regular senior football, Tschirpig moved to Tasmania and spent four successful years with Latrobe, where he enjoyed premiership success and earned state selection, before the Tigers lured him back for a brief second stint in 1976. Unable to recapture his early VFL form, he finished his playing days in the WAFL with East Fremantle and Perth, cementing his legacy as a skilled football journeyman who played senior football across three different states.
