Bio
Recruited from Albury, Bruce Waite was an imposing ruckman and forward pocket who experienced the ultimate success in his debut VFL season. A strong overhead mark with a powerful kick, he broke into the Essendon lineup in 1965 and was selected as a reserve for the Grand Final against St Kilda, earning a premiership medallion in just his eighth senior appearance. Despite this rapid rise, Waite often found himself on the fringe of selection, battling to secure a permanent ruck position and frequently splitting his time between the seniors and the reserves. He enjoyed his most consistent campaign in 1968 with 13 games but eventually departed Windy Hill after the 1969 season. Waite returned to the country and carved out a decorated career in the Ovens and Murray League, where he later won a Morris Medal with Myrtleford.
