Bio
Recruited to the club as a schoolboy who initially trained with Richmond, Kenneally had to fight his way into a powerhouse Melbourne lineup during the height of the Norm Smith era. After starting on the supplementary list, he broke into the senior side and quickly cemented a spot on the wing, playing a key role in the Demons' 1960 premiership victory over Collingwood. A versatile and adaptable player known for his booming kick, he shifted to a half-forward flank for the 1964 Grand Final triumph, securing his status as a dual premiership player in the club's last golden era for decades.
Kenneally's standing at the club grew significantly in the mid-1960s, particularly following the shock departure of legendary captain Ron Barassi. He was called upon to help fill the massive void, taking over ruck-rover duties and stepping up as vice-captain in 1965. He flourished with the added responsibility, finishing third in the Best and Fairest that season and later earning selection for Victoria in 1967. Although groin injuries eventually curtailed his senior career, he remained a dedicated clubman, bowing out after a Reserves premiership in 1969 before continuing his football journey in the VFA.
