Recruited from Murrumbeena, Bryan Wood quickly established himself as a key component of Richmond's dominance during the 1970s. A dashing winger known for his pace, balance, and reliable disposal, he became a fixture in Tom Hafey's lineup and played a crucial role in the back-to-back premierships of 1973 and 1974. Wood remained a consistent performer through the club's transition periods, eventually securing a third premiership medallion in 1980 and cementing his status as one of the premier outside midfielders of the competition.

Following a contract dispute with the Tigers at the end of 1982, Wood reunited with former teammate turned coach Kevin Sheedy at Essendon. The move added vital experience to a talented but young Bombers list on the verge of success. Wood played on the wing in Essendon's 1984 grand final victory over Hawthorn, joining a select group of footballers to win flags at two different clubs. He retired in 1986 as a four-time premiership player, widely respected as a disciplined and highly skilled contributor to two of the VFL's most formidable dynasties.
