Bio
Cameron McDonald joined Footscray as a teenager, debuting in the 1959 season and quickly establishing himself as a versatile component of the Bulldogs' engine room. A follower and ruck-rover who could also drift forward to hit the scoreboard, his time at the Western Oval is best defined by the events of the 1961 season. Early that year, McDonald requested a clearance to Collingwood, a move the club steadfastly refused to sanction. Forced to remain, he put the dispute aside to play a critical role in the team’s surge to the premiership decider, lining up as a follower in the 1961 Grand Final loss to Hawthorn. Despite the earlier trade tensions, he remained with the club for another two seasons, eventually concluding his VFL career at the end of 1963.
