Bio
The son of former St Kilda player Jim O'Brien, Cameron O'Brien cut his teeth in the Saints' under-19s before crossing to Collingwood, where he managed just a single senior appearance in late 1985. After a dominant stint in the amateurs with Old Xaverians—including a medal-winning performance for Victoria—he was recruited by the newly formed Brisbane Bears for their inaugural 1987 season. Standing 190cm, O'Brien was a forward capable of genuine brilliance who often frustrated with his lack of consistency, fluctuating between quiet outings and match-winning bursts. His time in Queensland was highlighted by a career-best seven-goal haul against Sydney at Carrara in 1990 and a dramatic soccered winning goal against St Kilda in 1989. He remained a dangerous focal point during the Bears' difficult formative years, finishing equal-third on the club's goalkicking list in his final season before retiring in 1991.
