Bio
The son of flamboyant WAFL legend Mal Brown, Campbell Brown was selected by Hawthorn with pick 32 in the 2001 National Draft. Although often conceding height to his opponents, Brown forged a reputation as a ferocious and courageous competitor, perfectly embodying the "unsociable football" ethos that characterised the Hawks' 2008 premiership side. His capacity to play tall through sheer physical aggression saw him earn All-Australian honours in defence that same year, while his versatility allowed him to swing forward and impact the scoreboard when required.
At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Brown became a foundation signing for the Gold Coast Suns, recruited to provide on-field protection and hard-edged experience for the club's developing list. He served in the leadership group and remained a physically imposing figure, though his aggressive style frequently attracted the scrutiny of the Match Review Panel. His 205-game career concluded abruptly prior to the 2014 season when he was released by the Suns following an off-field altercation with a teammate during a training camp in the United States, ending the tenure of one of the modern era's toughest pound-for-pound players.
