Teams

Recruited from Sturt with the third overall selection in the 1988 National Draft, Carl Dilena entered the VFL as a highly touted prospect for Fitzroy. A versatile small forward and midfielder capable of finding plenty of the football, he played 23 games at the Lions before being delisted and subsequently handed a lifeline by North Melbourne in the 1991 Pre-season Draft. His time at Arden Street was highlighted by a remarkable performance against Adelaide where he racked up 39 disposals, as well as a four-goal haul against the same opponent the following year, yet he was unable to secure a permanent place in a strengthening Kangaroos lineup. Although his playing career finished after just 33 games, Dilena became a pivotal figure in the game's administration decades later, serving as the CEO for both North Melbourne and St Kilda.
