Recruited from Preston in the VFA, Carl Keller was a diminutive back pocket who carved out a respectable career with Fitzroy during one of the club's most successful eras. Standing just 168cm, Keller relied on his agility and tenacity to quell opposition rovers, becoming a regular fixture in the Maroons' defensive unit for seven seasons. Despite featuring prominently throughout the early 1920s, he suffered the misfortune of missing out on Fitzroy's 1922 premiership side, having played during the home-and-away campaign but not the Grand Final triumph over Collingwood. After sitting out the entire 1924 season, Keller made a brief return to league ranks with a solitary appearance for Carlton in 1925 before hanging up his boots.
