Bio
Selected by Geelong with pick 17 in the 1995 National Draft, Carl Steinfort began his career as a versatile tall utility capable of playing on the wing or across half-back. Despite showing glimpses of potential at Kardinia Park, he struggled to secure a permanent position in the senior side over five seasons and was delisted by the Cats at the end of 2000. Handed a career lifeline by Collingwood in the pre-season draft, Steinfort reinvented himself under Mick Malthouse as a disciplined run-with player, utilising his endurance to nullify dangerous opposition midfielders. His brief but significant stint at the Magpies culminated in an appearance in the 2002 Grand Final loss to the Brisbane Lions, which ultimately proved to be the final game of his AFL career.
