Stats
Bio
Recruited from Morwell in the Latrobe Valley, Carl Vesty was a diminutive rover who struggled to secure a permanent spot in the Footscray lineup during the early 1970s. Standing at just 170cm, the teenager faced a significant size disadvantage against VFL opponents, managing only three senior games across two seasons while spending the majority of his tenure in the reserves. His departure from the Western Oval became the most notable aspect of his VFL career, as he crossed to South Australian club Woodville effectively as a makeweight in the high-profile clearance deal that secured star recruit Ray Huppatz for the Bulldogs. Vesty subsequently forged a career in the SANFL, finding greater continuity in the state league environment after his brief stint at the top level.
