Bio
Recruited from the Tasmanian club Latrobe, Carl Watson arrived at Punt Road with a reputation built on blistering pace. A professional sprinter who had famously won the Ulverstone Gift, Watson translated his athletic prowess to the football field as a fast, stylish winger and centreman who was noted for his reliable kicking and clean ball use. His tenure at Richmond coincided with a heartbreaking era of near-misses for the club, seeing him feature in the Tigers' back-to-back Grand Final losses to Collingwood in 1928 and 1929. A fireman by trade, Watson eventually crossed to Essendon for a single season in 1932 before concluding his career in the VFA with Oakleigh.
